Milwaukee Green Map & Links

Whether you’re a bicyclist who wants to locate interesting bike trails, or a resident looking for a natural clothes cleaner with water-based alternatives to chemicals for dry cleaning, Matthew Groshek’s Green Map of Milwaukee has a site for you.

For two years, Groshek, a graphic designer who operates the Education / Design Link on the east side, has been developing a Green Map of Milwaukee County. In this case, green isn’t just a color on a map, but a symbol of ecological awareness and conservation.

The Green Map highlights about 400 environmentally or ecologically significant places, such as community gardens, farmers markets, recycling centers, green stores and nature paths. HERE

Something that I hope Greener Milwaukee is taking into account is that higher population density is green. Open space and parkland is important but creating a high-density city is how Milwaukee can become even greener. i.e. less VMT, less energy per capita, more walking, more biking…

Definitely, some neighborhoods are better at it than others right now. Improved bike lanes, angled parking in Bayview, tram, trolleys… all of that is in the works. We will need your help and for you to use the bike racks coming to the 400+ buses in the city this spring, it’s up to all of us to make a Greener Milwaukee.

    Thanks for your comment Dave!

Well simply more people living on less land is a green lifestyle. Living in a walkable mixed-use neighborhood decreases VMT and therefore is more green as well…. On occasion I write about this issues at so I thought you might be interested in that as well.
